LG has launched a flexible screen that can bent, and rolled up. This is the first time that a display of this size with these characteristics, has been developed.
These 18-inch OLED display panels are flexible, rollable, and even translucent.
The flexibility was achieved thanks to the use of a backplane made of high molecular substance-based polyimide film, instead of plastic.
The display has a resolution of 1200 pixels by 810 pixels, and the panel can be rolled up to a radius of just 3cm, without doing any damage.
The most amazing feature is, how the panel can continue functioning even as it is being folded.
The rollable TV could create an experience similar to owning a projector, but the consumer will transport it from one place to another, and without the noise of an actual projector.
LG has planned to launch 60-inch rollable OLED displays in the market by 2017. Company spokesman said “Our goal is to develop an ultra high-resolution display within three years that is larger than 60 inches, transparent and can be rolled up like paper.”
